Sawat dii! Hello! After a really nice flight on Thai International in biz class - if you can call a 17-hour flight "nice" - I arrived in Bangkok feeling not too tired. I slept & ate a lot. Three meals were served & I managed to eat each one! Arrived in BKK's new, ultra sleek airport, where dear friends, Veronique & Pierre Poliansky were there to meet me. They have a beautiful appartment in an area north of BKK calledNonthaburi. They are right on the Chao Phraya River - the large river running through BKK.I woke up this morning to bright sunshine, palm trees & the view of water taxis & river barges going by. Bliss. Breakfast on the patio. More bliss.
Veronique & Pierre showed me the local market, which is huge & full of fruits, vegs, plastic stuff, fake bling, clothes & lots of food stalls that all looked pretty enticing.
We then went to a super duper supermarket with air-con, great service (they even take your things out of the shopping basket for you!) & even more food stalls selling yummy looking food (sates, sushi, chicken, soups, curries - how do they stay so thin?). Lunch back home, then on to 1st major endeavor of the trip - curtains.
Veronique & I went to the Jim Thompson Outlet, where I was lucky enough to find a gorgeous silk fabric for curtains . Tomorrow I'll try to find someone to actually make the curtains so then all I have to do is hang them in Bethesda.
